Greenville, SC – A round of thunderstorms is expected to sweep across the Carolinas and northeast Georgia Sunday, bringing the threat of damaging winds and heavy rainfall through the evening.

According to the US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC, a cold front advancing into the region will trigger storm activity beginning this afternoon and continuing into tonight. While the overall risk level remains marginal, a few storms could reach severe levels with wind gusts strong enough to cause localized damage.

The impacted region includes much of Upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina, and parts of northeast Georgia, including Greenville, Spartanburg, Asheville, and Anderson. Rainfall rates may overwhelm poor drainage areas, creating the potential for localized flooding.

Forecasters caution that while widespread tornado activity is not expected, isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out entirely. Residents are urged to stay alert for weather updates and to have multiple ways to receive warnings.

The marginal risk designation means isolated severe thunderstorms are possible. Conditions will likely clear after midnight, but wet roads and power outages may persist into Monday morning. Drivers are advised to reduce speed on slick roads and avoid flooded areas.
