Greenville, South Carolina – One more day of punishing heat and severe storms is on tap for Upstate South Carolina before relief arrives this weekend in the form of cooler, drier air.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, Friday’s heat index will soar past 105° in many areas, with isolated pockets near Columbia and Rock Hill peaking closer to 110°. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms could turn severe, bringing damaging winds and potential flash flooding across the region.

Counties including Anderson, Pickens, and Spartanburg are under a severe thunderstorm risk. Flash flood watches remain in effect where repeated storms may overwhelm drainage systems. Outdoor workers and travelers are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity, and remain weather-aware through tonight.

Relief is expected Saturday as a cold front moves through, dropping highs into the 80s with reduced humidity levels.
