Greenville County, SC – A traffic stop on Interstate 85 led to drug and weapon charges, deputies said.

According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Bravo Platoon conducted a lawful traffic stop on I-85 in the Mauldin area this week and allegedly located 5.27 grams of methamphetamine, a handgun with ammunition, five controlled substance pills, and various drug paraphernalia.

Authorities said Shannon Ellis Pearson was charged with possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance (Schedule I–V), and possession of methamphetamine.

Helen Maria Burns was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to deputies.

The sheriff’s office stated the charges stem from evidence recovered during the stop. Officials did not release additional details about the circumstances leading to the traffic stop or whether either suspect was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center.

Interstate 85 is a major commuter corridor through Greenville County, frequently used by students, workers, and commercial drivers traveling between Greenville and Anderson.

The investigation remains ongoing. Deputies did not indicate whether additional charges are possible.

Authorities remind residents that all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
