Greene County, TN – Tennessee Highway Patrol is asking drivers across East Tennessee for help identifying a tractor-trailer driver involved in a serious hit-and-run crash on Interstate 81 in Greene County.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, on I-81 South near mile marker 47. A passenger vehicle was parked on the right emergency shoulder when the driver stepped out to change a rear tire.
Troopers say a passing commercial motor vehicle struck the parked vehicle, causing it to hit the woman and throw her from the scene. She suffered serious injuries. Her name has not been released.
A witness driving behind the tractor-trailer told investigators they saw the crash and pulled over to help the victim. According to THP, the witness said the truck initially stopped on the right shoulder, and the witness parked behind it. After a few minutes, the truck driver allegedly drove away, continuing southbound on I-81 without ever exiting the cab.
The suspect vehicle is described only as a commercial truck hauling a white box trailer. Investigators believe the rig may have damage on its right side, possibly near the rear axles of the tractor or the front of the trailer.
Anyone who may have seen the crash, has dashcam video from that stretch of I-81, or recognizes the vehicle description is urged to call the Tennessee Highway Patrol Emergency Dispatch Communications Center at 865-895-6950 and ask for Sgt. Jonathan Scott.
