Greene County, MO – A wanted suspect is dead following a pursuit and crash early Saturday morning on Highway 65 near Evans Road, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the incident began around 8:48 a.m. when Greene County deputies were called to assist Christian County deputies pursuing a wanted subject who entered Greene County’s jurisdiction. The suspect’s vehicle reportedly left the roadway, overturned, and began to catch fire.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies gave verbal commands to the suspect when a single gunshot was heard coming from inside the overturned vehicle. The driver allegedly failed to comply with orders, and responders from Christian County and the Missouri State Highway Patrol extricated the driver, who later died from injuries.

The Sheriff’s Critical Incident Team (SCIT)—a regional unit including detectives from Lawrence, Christian, Webster, and Greene Counties—has been activated to investigate the incident and ensure transparency, officials said.

The investigation remains active, and more details will be released as they become available, according to authorities.
