Western Greenbrier County, West Virginia – Dangerous winter conditions persist Saturday morning as a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for parts of southeastern West Virginia.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a Winter Storm Warning continues until 10 a.m. EST for Western Greenbrier County, including the communities of Rainelle, Quinwood, and Duo. Forecasters report moderate to heavy snow, with additional accumulations of one to two inches expected before the storm tapers off.

Strong winds are compounding the impacts, with gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour. The combination of snow and high winds is expected to cause blowing snow, sharply reduced visibility, and rapidly deteriorating road conditions, especially during the early-morning hours.

Roadways across the county, particularly bridges, overpasses, and higher-elevation routes, are likely to become slick and hazardous. Travel impacts are expected along U.S. Route 60, West Virginia Route 20, and local mountain roads, where snow and wind exposure are greatest.

The National Weather Service warns that the weight of snow combined with very strong winds may down tree limbs and power lines, leading to sporadic power outages. In exposed areas, winds could also cause extensive tree damage, increasing the risk of blocked roadways.

Emergency officials strongly advise residents to delay all travel if possible until conditions improve later this morning. Those who must travel are urged to drive with extreme caution, allow extra stopping distance, and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility due to blowing snow.

Drivers are encouraged to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, including food, water, and a flashlight, and to check road conditions by calling 511 before departing.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after mid-morning as snowfall ends and winds begin to ease. Until then, residents across western Greenbrier County should remain alert and take precautions to stay safe during the ongoing winter storm.
