Green Oaks, IL – A Vernon Hills man was taken into custody early Thursday after authorities say he allegedly attempted to force entry into a residence and caused significant damage in a quiet Lake County neighborhood.

According to the Lake County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1900 block of Kenton Lane in Green Oaks. Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a male subject allegedly trying to break into a home. Investigators said the man, identified as 36-year-old Grant Manning of Vernon Hills, allegedly used his vehicle to block a victimโ€™s car inside a garage to prevent escape.

Authorities allege Manning repeatedly attempted to gain entry into the residence and allegedly shattered a front bay window during the disturbance. The caller told dispatchers Manning allegedly tried to enter the home before returning to his vehicle and attempting to crash into the property.

Additional 911 calls from neighbors reported Manning allegedly yelling and running through nearby yards. When deputies arrived, officials said Manning was covered in blood and allegedly displayed aggressive and uncooperative behavior. He allegedly refused verbal commands and continued acting aggressively toward deputies before a Taser was deployed to bring him into custody.

Manning was treated for lacerations, which authorities say he allegedly sustained while breaking windows, before being transported to a hospital. He was later released and taken to the Lake County Jail.

According to the Lake County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office, Manning has been charged with unlawful restraint, criminal damage to property, aggravated assault to a peace officer, and resisting a peace officer. He remains in custody awaiting his initial court appearance.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
