Wisconsin – Snow snakes across open fields, wind rattles signs, and visibility drops without warning as winter tightens its grip across northeast Wisconsin this morning. MLK Day begins with dangerous cold, blowing snow, and travel conditions that can change in minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midday, while a Cold Weather Advisory continues into Tuesday morning. Wind chills have fallen as low as 25 below zero, with air temperatures near zero and gusts reaching 40 mph. Snow and blowing snow are reducing visibility, especially in open areas and along north–south roads.

Brown County and surrounding areas, including Calumet, Manitowoc, Winnebago, Oconto, and Shawano counties, are seeing patchy whiteout conditions at times. Roads such as I-41, Highway 29, and rural stretches near Lake Michigan are most exposed to drifting snow. Even brief snow showers can lead to slick pavement and flash freezing after minor melting.

The bitter cold lingers beyond today. Wind chills remain dangerous into Tuesday morning before slowly easing. Light snow is expected again late Tuesday night into Wednesday, particularly south of Highway 29, setting up another slippery commute. Another surge of colder air is possible late this week, with daytime highs dropping back toward zero by Friday and Saturday.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, cover exposed skin, and keep emergency supplies in vehicles. Frostbite can occur in under 30 minutes in these conditions. If traveling, slow down and allow extra space.
