Green Bay, Wisconsin – Freezing rain is expected to create slippery and icy conditions across parts of northern Wisconsin this afternoon and into early evening, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.

Forecasters said periods of freezing rain will mainly affect areas north of Highway 10, where surface temperatures remain near or below freezing. Along the Lake Michigan shoreline, temperatures have warmed into the mid-30s, allowing precipitation to fall primarily as rain.

South of Highway 10, rain and freezing rain are both possible late this afternoon into early evening before drier conditions return. The NWS said dry weather is expected later this afternoon or during the evening hours as the system exits the region.

According to the National Weather Service, light ice accumulations are possible, including areas that could see a light glaze and localized ice amounts up to one-tenth of an inch. These conditions may lead to slick roads, reduced traction, and slower travel, particularly on untreated surfaces.

Travel impacts are most likely north of Highway 10, where freezing rain could create hazardous driving conditions. The NWS urged motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach destinations.

The advisory may be especially relevant for commuters, delivery drivers, and evening travelers across north-central and northeast Wisconsin.
