Green Bay, Wisconsin – Light snow and a wintry mix are expected to affect Green Bay and much of northeast Wisconsin today into tonight, creating periodic slippery travel conditions, especially during commute hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, light to moderate snow will fall this morning, mainly between 4 a.m. and noon, with the heaviest snowfall centered along the Highway 29 corridor. Snowfall totals are expected to reach up to 2 inches, with locally higher rates of up to ¾ inch per hour possible during the morning commute.
As snow tapers off late this morning, precipitation may transition to a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain, particularly toward the Highway 10 corridor. Forecasters also warn of a secondary period of freezing drizzle developing later this afternoon into the evening, especially across central and eastern Wisconsin.
Any freezing drizzle could lead to slick and icy spots on untreated roads, bridges, and parking lots. While ice accumulations are expected to be light, even a thin glaze may cause hazardous travel conditions.
The NWS notes medium to high confidence in snowfall amounts but lower confidence regarding the exact location and duration of freezing drizzle. A slight shift in the precipitation axis could change local impacts.
The timing may affect morning and evening commuters, students, and holiday travelers, particularly those driving along Highways 29 and 10.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor road conditions throughout the day as wintry precipitation continues.
