Wisconsin – Fog drapes over the bay this morning, softening the shoreline and dimming headlights on Highway 41 as Thanksgiving Travel picks up across Green Bay. Pavement shines with moisture, and a cool, steady breeze moves through neighborhoods while early drivers navigate tightening visibility. Conditions stay unsettled early, but the atmosphere is primed for fast changes through the day.
According to the National Weather Service, locally dense fog may cut visibility below a half mile before late morning. As the fog lifts, light rain builds and eventually transitions to snow across northern Wisconsin. This warm-to-cold shift marks a classic early Winter Tease, especially with temperatures dropping sharply on Wednesday. Rain turns to snow first in the Northwoods, but Green Bay may see a brief rain-snow mix by afternoon as colder air slides in.
A stronger system follows quickly. Heavy snow is expected across north-central Wisconsin Wednesday, with 8 to 15 inches possible in Vilas County and 4 to 8 inches across nearby areas. While Green Bay won’t see totals that high, gusty northwest winds of 35 to 45 mph will make regional travel more difficult. Blowing snow may reduce visibility at times, especially for anyone driving north toward Shawano, Oconto County, or the UP.
Thanksgiving Day brings a calmer, partly sunny break with highs in the lower 30s — good news for those on the road. Black Friday begins clear but cold before another light snow chance returns Saturday.
