Green Bay, Wis. – Fall-like air has settled over Wisconsin this weekend, with Saturday’s highs stuck in the mid-50s to low 60s—cold enough to put decades-old records in jeopardy. Towns like Merrill, Wausau, and Antigo could see the coldest early-September daytime readings in nearly 20 years.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, clouds will dominate much of Saturday with isolated showers or sprinkles, especially during the afternoon. Highs may only reach 56 degrees in Antigo and 57 in Wausau, both within striking distance of record low maximums. Stevens Point and Marshfield are also running several degrees below seasonal averages.
Travelers should be prepared for damp roads this afternoon, though no major hazards are expected. Tonight, clearing skies and light winds will send temperatures plunging into the upper 30s to low 40s. Rural areas north of Highway 29 may flirt with patchy frost by dawn Sunday.
Sunday will bring some relief, with highs climbing into the upper 50s to mid-60s under partly sunny skies. The cool stretch will linger into early next week, though records are less likely to fall after the weekend.
