GREEN BAY, Wis. – A sharp drop in temperatures Tuesday night could bring the first widespread frost and freeze of the season across central and northern Wisconsin. Residents from Wausau to Rhinelander may wake up to icy windshields and frozen gardens by early Wednesday, while patchy frost could extend into the Fox Valley.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s and low 30s overnight, with the coldest readings in northern counties such as Vilas, Oneida, and Forest. A killing freeze is possible in areas like Land O’ Lakes and Crandon, where lows could reach the upper 20s by daybreak.

Gardeners and homeowners are urged to protect late-season plants and disconnect outdoor hoses before temperatures drop. Drivers should also be cautious of slick bridges and rural roads early Wednesday.

Milder air is expected to return by midweek, but another round of cool nights is possible later in the week as fall conditions settle in.
