Green Bay, WI – Boaters planning a late-season trip on Green Bay or Lake Michigan should prepare for hazardous conditions this weekend, as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Green Bay warns of strengthening winds and waves beginning Saturday evening.
According to the NWS forecast issued Friday morning, wind gusts are expected to increase late Saturday, building hazardous conditions for small craft across Green Bay and the Lake Michigan nearshore. The agency noted that Small Craft Advisories will eventually be issued as wave heights and gusts climb through the weekend.
The forecast timeline shows winds shifting southwest Saturday into Sunday, with gusts rising above 25 knots and waves reaching 3 to 6 feet in some areas. Conditions are expected to remain rough into Monday, with the strongest impacts likely on open waters and exposed shorelines.
The NWS urges anyone considering boating to use caution, check updated advisories, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. “Heads up if planning a late season trip out on the boat this weekend,” the office stated. “Hazardous conditions for small craft are expected to develop by late Saturday.”
The advisory impacts Central Green Bay, Southern Green Bay, Washington Island to Sturgeon Bay, Sturgeon Bay to Two Rivers, and Two Rivers to Sheboygan.
Local boaters are encouraged to stay informed as updated advisories are released and to reconsider travel during peak wind and wave periods.
