Green Bay, Wis. – A Frost Advisory has been issued for much of central and northeast Wisconsin from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Thursday, with overnight lows expected to dip between 32 and 36 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay. Widespread frost is likely to form under clear skies and calm winds.

The advisory includes Marathon, Wood, Portage, Waupaca, Outagamie, Brown, Waushara, Winnebago, Calumet, Shawano, Menominee, and southern Marinette and Oconto counties, affecting cities such as Green Bay, Appleton, Wausau, and Oshkosh. Areas north of there, where the growing season has ended, will not receive frost headlines this fall.

According to the weather service, frost could harm or kill sensitive plants if left exposed. Gardeners and homeowners should cover or bring in tender vegetation and disconnect outdoor hoses before midnight. Rural and low-lying areas are most at risk for heavier frost accumulation.

Motorists may encounter frosty windshields early Thursday, especially on Highway 29 and I-41 corridors. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation recommends allowing extra time for travel during the morning commute. After a chilly start, abundant sunshine will return Thursday with highs climbing into the upper 50s.

Milder weather is expected this weekend as a southwest breeze ushers in warmer air, pushing daytime highs into the mid-60s by Sunday.
