GREEN BAY, Wis. – Dry fields and steady west winds are setting the stage for a risky start to the week across northeast Wisconsin. Gusts pushing 30 miles per hour and low humidity will heighten fire danger today, even as skies stay clear and temperatures reach the upper 50s.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, elevated fire weather conditions will persist through this afternoon for counties including Brown, Oconto, Marinette, Shawano, and Waupaca. The strongest winds will develop along Highway 29 and I-41, where dry brush could ignite easily. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and use extreme caution with campfires, grills, or farm equipment that could spark flames.

By Tuesday, calmer conditions return under mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will remain mild, hovering near 57°F, before a cooling trend begins midweek. Wednesday looks bright and seasonable, but a new system moving in from the Plains brings increasing clouds and rain chances late Thursday into early Friday.

Behind the rain, cooler air will settle in for the weekend, with highs slipping into the 40s and lows dipping toward freezing. To be fair, no snow is expected yet, but models hint at colder Canadian air pushing south closer to mid-November. That could open the door for Wisconsin’s next early-season flurry chance before Thanksgiving.

Residents should finish yard work and outdoor cleanup early this week before rain arrives and temperatures tumble. Fire crews and farmers are advised to stay alert for changing wind directions this afternoon.
