Green Bay, WI – A complex winter weather system is expected to impact northeast and north-central Wisconsin late this week, bringing a mix of snow, ice, rain, and a potential flash freeze that could make travel hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service office in Green Bay, a strong low-pressure system will move into the region late Wednesday night through Thursday, producing several precipitation types as temperatures fluctuate. Light snow is expected to arrive first Wednesday night, mainly across central and north-central Wisconsin.

Forecasters say that while snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, pockets of freezing drizzle are possible, which could leave a thin glaze of ice on untreated roads and sidewalks. Travel conditions may become slippery overnight into early Thursday.

By Thursday morning, temperatures are forecast to rise above freezing, allowing precipitation to transition to rain across much of the region. However, the break from winter weather will be brief.

A strong cold front is expected to sweep through Thursday afternoon into the evening, causing temperatures to drop quickly. As colder air rushes in, rain is forecast to change back to snow, with the possibility of a flash freeze as wet surfaces rapidly ice over.

The National Weather Service warns that slippery roads will be possible, especially during the Thursday evening commute, when falling temperatures and changing precipitation types may catch drivers off guard.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts closely, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions late this week. While significant snow accumulations are not currently expected, ice and refreezing could create dangerous conditions even with light precipitation.
