Green Bay, Wisconsin — Periods of rain and thunderstorms could move through northeast Wisconsin from Friday afternoon into Friday night, bringing gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a fast-moving weather system is expected to produce multiple waves of storms beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through late Friday night.

Some of the storms could become strong during the evening hours, with gusty winds and small hail listed as the primary threats. Forecasters say the overall severe weather risk remains relatively low, but stronger storms may still develop in parts of the region.

Rainfall could also become locally heavy at times. Meteorologists say some areas could receive more than one inch of rain, which may lead to brief street flooding in low-lying locations and water ponding on roadways.

Travel conditions may be affected along major regional corridors including Interstate 41 through the Green Bay metro area, Interstate 43 along the Lake Michigan shoreline, and U.S. Highway 141 as storms pass through Friday evening.

In addition to urban drainage issues, rising rivers and runoff from rain falling on still-frozen ground could increase the risk for ice jams and localized flooding during the weekend.

Forecasters say storms may arrive in waves, with one period of heavier rainfall possible Friday afternoon and another round developing later Friday evening.

Drivers are encouraged to watch for reduced visibility, standing water, and sudden wind gusts during thunderstorms, particularly during the evening commute.

The unsettled weather pattern may impact commuters, students, and weekend travelers across the Green Bay region as the storm system moves through northeast Wisconsin.
