Green Bay, Wisconsin – Drivers across central and northeast Wisconsin are dealing with dense fog Friday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions during the early commute.
The National Weather Service in Green Bay says areas of dense fog are reducing visibility to one-quarter mile or less in some locations, prompting a Dense Fog Advisory through 9 AM for much of the region.
Communities including Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, and surrounding areas are experiencing the lowest visibility early Friday morning.
Meteorologists say the fog developed overnight and could significantly slow travel times for drivers heading to work or school.
When visibility drops this low, even familiar roads can become difficult to navigate, especially during the busy morning commute.
Drivers along major routes such as Interstate 41, U.S. Highway 41, and U.S. Highway 10 may encounter sudden reductions in visibility as fog patches thicken.
Transportation officials warn that low visibility increases the risk of accidents, particularly at intersections and during lane changes.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and increase following distance between vehicles while driving in foggy conditions.
Safety experts also recommend using low-beam headlights rather than high beams, which can reflect off fog and make visibility even worse.
Officials advise drivers to stay focused on road markings and follow traffic signals carefully, as fog can make it harder to see upcoming turns and intersections.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later in the morning as temperatures rise and the fog begins to dissipate.
Until then, residents across northeast Wisconsin should use extra caution while traveling.
