Green Bay, Wisconsin – Snow could begin impacting highways across central and northeast Wisconsin by late Thursday night, with a 40 to 60 percent chance of more than 2 inches falling north and west of the Fox Valley before the Friday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a winter system is expected to move in Thursday evening, starting as a wintry mix before transitioning to mainly snow overnight. The highest probabilities for at least 2 inches of accumulation stretch from Rhinelander and Wausau south toward Stevens Point and into parts of central Wisconsin. Confidence decreases closer to Lake Michigan, including Green Bay and Sheboygan, where rain may mix in longer.

Major corridors including I-41 from Green Bay through Appleton, Highway 29 near Wausau, I-39 near Stevens Point and Highway 51 in north-central Wisconsin could see snow-covered lanes by early Friday. The Friday morning commute is most likely to be affected, especially north and west of the Fox Valley where colder air will support steadier snowfall.

While snowfall totals remain uncertain, even a few inches could create slick bridges, reduced visibility and slower travel times. Drivers should plan extra time Friday morning and monitor updated forecasts as the storm track becomes clearer.

Additional advisories or winter weather headlines may be issued as confidence in snowfall placement and totals increases heading into Thursday.
