Green Bay, Wisconsin – Accumulating snow is impacting the Green Bay area today and will continue into tonight, creating slippery roads, reduced visibility, and hazardous travel conditions across northeastern Wisconsin.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, snow spread across the region early this morning, with the heaviest snowfall rates expected through noon. A brief lull is possible this afternoon for most areas, except far northeastern Wisconsin, before additional snow develops this evening and late tonight, ending by early Sunday.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Brown, Kewaunee, Calumet, Manitowoc, Marinette, and southern Oconto counties, while a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Door County, where the most significant impacts are expected.
Snowfall totals across the advisory area are forecast to range from 2 to 4 inches, while Door County could see 4 to 7 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Forecasters note that peak snowfall rates of 0.25 to 0.50 inches per hour may occur at times, particularly this morning and again tonight.
In addition to snow, north to northwest winds gusting between 20 and 30 mph are expected from this afternoon into Sunday morning. These winds may cause blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially in open and rural areas. Visibility could drop to one mile or less during heavier snow bursts.
The National Weather Service warns that roads will likely become snow-covered and slippery, with minor blowing snow possible mainly east of Interstate 41. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for changing road conditions, particularly during the evening and overnight hours.
This weather may be especially impactful for commuters, overnight workers, and anyone traveling to or from Door County.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local road conditions as the system continues to move through the region.
