Green Bay, Wisconsin – Drivers across central and northeast Wisconsin should prepare for hazardous travel conditions late tonight into Tuesday morning as a wintry mix brings widespread icing, creating a high risk for slick roads during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, freezing rain is the primary concern as precipitation spreads across the region overnight. Cold ground temperatures will allow ice to accumulate even as air temperatures slowly rise. A light glaze is expected across much of the area, with a 40 to 50 percent chance that some locations see ice accumulations near or exceeding one-tenth of an inch, especially from central Wisconsin into the northeast.

Communities including Wausau, Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Antigo, Appleton, Green Bay, Shawano, and Marinette are within the higher-risk zone. Roads, bridges, sidewalks, and untreated surfaces are likely to become slick, particularly between midnight and mid-morning Tuesday. Travel impacts are considered likely, with conditions potentially slow to improve even after sunrise.

Forecasters note that conditions should gradually improve Tuesday afternoon as temperatures climb into the lower to middle 30s. However, lingering ice may persist on shaded roads and elevated surfaces longer than expected.

Residents are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check road conditions before heading out Tuesday morning. If possible, delaying travel until later in the day could reduce risk. Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve overnight.
