Green Bay, Wisconsin – Slippery and potentially icy travel conditions are expected to develop late tonight across much of central and northeast Wisconsin as a wintry mix overspreads the region, creating a high-impact window for the Tuesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a mix of snow, sleet, rain, and freezing rain will move into the area late tonight and continue through Tuesday morning, with the greatest concern from midnight through about 9 a.m. Forecasters say icing is the primary hazard, with widespread light glaze expected and pockets of ice accumulation near or above one-tenth of an inch possible, especially across central Wisconsin into parts of northeast Wisconsin.
Communities including Wausau, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Appleton, Green Bay, Shawano, and Oconto face a high likelihood of slick roads. Travel impacts are considered likely, with a 60 to 70 percent chance of hazardous conditions, particularly where surface temperatures remain well below freezing early Tuesday. Even as air temperatures climb into the lower and middle 30s by Tuesday afternoon, cold ground temperatures may allow ice to linger on untreated roads, sidewalks, and bridges.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. If possible, delaying Tuesday morning travel could reduce risk. Conditions are expected to gradually improve Tuesday afternoon as temperatures continue to rise.
Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as the system moves in, and residents are encouraged to stay updated through the overnight hours.
