Green Bay, Wisconsin – Roads could turn icy within hours tonight as a messy winter system brings freezing rain, sleet, and snow across central and northeast Wisconsin, with the highest impacts expected through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, ice accumulations between 0.10 and 0.40 inches are possible, especially just north and west of the Fox Valley, including Wausau, Rhinelander, and Stevens Point. Areas closer to Green Bay and Appleton may see lighter icing, but even a thin glaze can create hazardous travel.

Snow and sleet will begin this evening before transitioning to freezing rain overnight. By Thursday afternoon, warmer air may change precipitation to plain rain across eastern and central Wisconsin, though icy conditions could linger on untreated roads and elevated surfaces.

Highways including I-41, US-10, and Highway 29 may become slick during the Thursday morning commute, with reduced traction and longer stopping distances likely. Ice buildup on trees and powerlines could also lead to isolated outages.

Residents should avoid unnecessary travel early Thursday, charge devices, and prepare for possible power disruptions. The system will taper Thursday night, but additional updates and advisories remain likely as conditions evolve.
