Green Bay, WI — Northeast and north-central Wisconsin residents should prepare for multiple rounds of wintry precipitation beginning Friday night and continuing into early Monday, with the potential for significant ice and snow accumulation.
According to the National Weather Service Green Bay, thunderstorms are possible late Friday afternoon and evening, followed by a transition to freezing rain Friday night. Areas north of Highway 29 could see hazardous road conditions by early Friday morning due to freezing drizzle.
Saturday may bring a brief lull in precipitation, but heavier and more widespread rain and freezing rain are expected to return later in the day. Forecast models show a 70% to 82% chance of at least 0.10” of ice in counties such as Florence, Rhinelander, and Antigo. The risk for 0.25” of ice is also elevated in this region.
By Sunday, colder air will shift the system to snow and freezing rain, with snowfall continuing through Sunday night into Monday morning. Areas like Florence and Laona have a 50% or greater chance of receiving at least 2 inches of snow.
Drivers should prepare for slick roads, especially during the Saturday night and Sunday periods. Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts and delay travel if possible.
