Green Bay, Wisconsin – Unhealthy air from Canadian wildfire smoke is blanketing much of Wisconsin Friday morning, with reduced visibility and health risks expected to persist into Saturday. A statewide Air Quality Advisory remains in effect until at least noon Friday, but officials warn conditions may not improve until early next week.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the National Weather Service in Green Bay, the PM2.5 Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to reach “Unhealthy” levels, with some areas nearing “Very Unhealthy” through the weekend. All 72 counties are included in the advisory, including Green Bay, Wausau, Eau Claire, and Madison. Motorists in north-central counties should also be alert for early morning fog Friday and Saturday, especially near highways and river valleys.

Sensitive groups—including children, seniors, and people with asthma—are advised to stay indoors, limit physical activity, and use air purifiers if available. Residents should close windows and avoid outdoor chores until smoke levels drop.

Air quality may slowly improve starting Saturday afternoon, but intermittent smoke and haze could return through early next week. Officials will reevaluate advisories daily based on updated PM2.5 measurements.
