Green Bay, Wisconsin – Drivers across northern Wisconsin should use extra caution this morning as a light wintry mix spreads through the region, creating slippery roads and hazardous travel conditions during the Tuesday commute.

Rain, freezing rain, and snow moved into northern Wisconsin early Tuesday, with reports of slick spots already coming in from north-central parts of the state. In the Green Bay area, precipitation is expected to remain light, but even small amounts of freezing rain can lead to dangerous travel, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, the greatest risk for a light glaze of ice will continue through mid-morning. A thin coating of ice is possible in spots, enough to reduce traction and increase the risk of accidents. Minor snow accumulations are also possible, particularly closer to the Wisconsin–Upper Michigan border, where up to a half inch of snow may fall.

Local law enforcement has reported slippery conditions in parts of the region, underscoring the need for slower speeds and increased following distance. The impacts are expected to be most noticeable during the morning commute, when temperatures hover near freezing and road surfaces cool quickly.

Motorists traveling north of Green Bay toward communities such as Wausau, Rhinelander, and Antigo may encounter more persistent slick conditions. Visibility could briefly lower during periods of mixed precipitation, though widespread heavy snow is not expected with this system.

Conditions are forecast to gradually improve later this morning as temperatures rise slightly and precipitation tapers off. However, shaded areas and less-traveled roads may remain slick even after the wintry mix ends.

Residents are urged to allow extra travel time, avoid sudden braking, and stay alert for rapidly changing road conditions. Pedestrians should also watch for icy sidewalks and parking lots.

While this is a relatively minor winter event, its timing during the morning commute increases the risk of travel issues. No significant additional accumulation is expected later today, but drivers should remain cautious until road conditions fully improve.

Forecasters advise monitoring updates in case temperatures trend colder than expected, which could prolong icy conditions.
