Green Bay, Wisconsin – Motorists across the Green Bay area are dealing with hazardous travel conditions Monday morning as strong northwest winds whip up blowing and drifting snow, sharply reducing visibility on major highways. The worst conditions are developing during the morning commute, especially in open areas and along lake-influenced roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, wind gusts reaching 30 to 45 mph are causing powdery snow to blow across roads, with visibility dropping to one mile or less at times. The most dangerous travel conditions are expected along the Interstate and Highway 41 corridor, including the Lake Butte des Morts Bridge, Interstate 43, and roadways across Door County where snow is blowing onshore from the frozen bay.

Drivers on I-41, I-43, and U.S. 10 are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and be prepared for sudden whiteout conditions. Brief reductions in visibility are also possible near the Bay of Green Bay and Lake Winnebago. Wisconsin DOT crews are monitoring conditions, but blowing snow may quickly re-cover treated surfaces.

Winds are expected to gradually ease later today, though patchy blowing snow could linger into the afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midday for much of northeastern Wisconsin, and motorists are encouraged to check road conditions before traveling.
