Green Bay, Wis. – Thunderstorms are set to move across northeast Wisconsin Wednesday night into Thursday, raising concerns for slick roads and slower travel. Drivers on I-41 and Highway 29 should prepare for heavy rain at times, especially during Thursday’s morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, rain chances rise to 70% Thursday afternoon with gusty southwest winds up to 25 mph. Some storms could produce brief downpours, reducing visibility and leaving behind ponding on low-lying roads. While severe weather is not expected, conditions may still affect school drop-offs, work commutes, and deliveries.
Green Bay will see highs in the low 60s Thursday under persistent showers. Oshkosh and Appleton should expect similar conditions, with the heaviest rain likely mid-morning through late afternoon. In Marinette and Door counties, increasing clouds tonight will give way to widespread showers by daybreak.
Residents are urged to allow extra travel time, use headlights in rain, and avoid standing water on roadways. Outdoor activities, including Thursday evening practices and early fall events, may face interruptions due to wet weather.
Looking ahead, drier skies return Friday with highs near 61. The weekend looks more promising for outdoor plans, with Saturday bringing sunshine and mild conditions before a slight rain chance reappears Sunday night.
Showers may linger into early next week, but widespread hazardous weather is unlikely. The NWS says additional advisories could be issued if rainfall totals climb higher than expected.
