Green Bay, WI – A major ice storm is threatening power and travel across northeastern and central Wisconsin through Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, an Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. CDT Sunday, impacting counties including Marathon, Shawano, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida, Florence, and Forest. Ice accumulations between half an inch and eight-tenths of an inch are expected in these areas, with sleet and snow totals reaching up to one inch.
Further south, Portage, Wood, Waupaca, and Southern Oconto counties are forecast to receive slightly less ice—between one-quarter and one-half inch—though significant disruptions are still likely.
Travel conditions across the region are expected to deteriorate rapidly, with impossible travel likely due to ice-covered roads and potential tree damage. Officials warn of widespread power outages, as heavy ice threatens utility lines and limbs.
Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, charge devices, and prepare emergency kits with food, water, and flashlights. Power outages should be reported immediately to utility providers. For road updates, call 511.
This storm poses the most serious icing threat to Wisconsin this March, with impacts stretching from Rhinelander to Wisconsin Rapids and beyond.
