Green Bay, WI – A warm and breezy weekend is ahead for Wisconsin, but with it comes a heightened risk of fire danger, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.

A weak cold front moving through Thursday night could bring a few isolated showers and storms to central Wisconsin, though most areas will remain dry. Temperatures are expected to climb into the low to upper 80s Friday and Saturday, well above normal for early October.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 20% chance of isolated thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening, mainly across far northeast Wisconsin. Beyond that, the bigger concern will be strong winds combined with unseasonably warm temperatures, which may increase the risk of grass and brush fires Saturday and Sunday.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding residents to avoid burning yard debris, use caution while grilling, and fully extinguish cigarettes. Burn restrictions may be in effect depending on local conditions, and officials are urging residents to check with local authorities before starting any outdoor fires.

Sunday is expected to remain warm and windy, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s before temperatures cool slightly into early next week.
