Green Bay, WI – Drivers across central Wisconsin and the southern Fox Valley may face a slick morning commute today as the season’s first snowfall moves through the region. Light snow is expected to continue through late morning, with travel impacts likely across several counties.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Green Bay, precipitation is moving into central Wisconsin early this morning, beginning as a rain-snow mix before transitioning to all snow. Forecasters say most of the accumulation will occur south of Highway 10, where colder air is more established.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon, covering communities including Stevens Point, Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, and Wautoma. Snowfall totals between 1–2 inches, with localized amounts up to 3 inches, are expected in the advisory area. Lighter snow is anticipated farther east across the southern Fox Valley and toward the lakeshore.
NWS officials warn that even light snowfall can create hazardous travel conditions, especially with it being the first measurable snow of the season for many drivers. Slick or lightly snow-covered roads may develop during the morning commute, and residents are urged to allow extra time, reduce speed and stay alert for sudden slippery spots.
Forecasters note that temperatures hover near freezing this morning, increasing the potential for icy patches on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by midday as the system exits the region and road crews continue treatment operations.
Residents across central Wisconsin, the southern Fox Valley, and nearby counties are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and use added caution during early travel.
