Milwaukee, WI – Winter may arrive early for parts of the Great Lakes Region, as new NOAA forecasts show a few early snow chances developing before Thanksgiving—especially near Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin.

According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC) update issued October 24, 2025, most of the U.S. will trend warmer than average through mid-November. However, the northern Great Lakes stand out as a potential exception, with cooler air slipping south and the first lake-effect snow bands possible by mid-month.

The 6–10 day outlook suggests mild weather early in November, but forecasters say colder, wetter air could move in from Canada around November 10–20, especially over Lakes Superior and Michigan. That setup could trigger the region’s first measurable snow, while southern cities like Chicago, Cleveland, and Fort Wayne likely stay rain-only through Thanksgiving.

For travelers, that means mostly smooth conditions—but anyone heading north for the holiday may want to keep an eye on lake-effect zones, where weather can change in hours.
