Detroit, MI – A historic lake effect snowstorm has blanketed portions of the Great Lakes region, leaving Michigan and Ohio buried under heavy snowfall. Snow totals exceeded five feet in some areas, disrupting travel and daily activities.
According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, the storm began last week and produced record-breaking snow in Michigan, with 65 inches reported near Gaylord. Ohio saw significant impacts as well, with 40 inches recorded near Ashtabula. Snowfall was accompanied by high winds, creating whiteout conditions across the region.
Local officials urged residents to limit travel as road crews worked around the clock to clear major highways. Many schools and businesses in the affected areas remain closed due to hazardous conditions. Power outages were reported in scattered communities, adding to the challenges faced by residents.
