Grayslake, IL – A woman who was allegedly being battered and held against her will was rescued early Monday after quick action by Lake County 911 emergency telecommunicators, authorities said.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call around 12:30 a.m. on March 18 from a woman who stated she was being assaulted inside a moving vehicle. The call disconnected, but dispatchers used tracking technology to locate the victim near Route 45 and Center Street in Grayslake.

Telecommunicators identified that the phone was moving southbound and worked to gather critical details while alerting deputies and local police. The call-taker was able to reconnect with the victim multiple times, at one point hearing her plead for the driver—identified as Cortes Del Rio—to stop driving recklessly.

Deputies determined the woman was in Buffalo Grove and coordinated with Buffalo Grove and Cook County police. Officers eventually stopped the vehicle, allowing the woman to escape. Authorities reported she had visible injuries but declined medical treatment.

Del Rio was arrested and charged with unlawful restraint, domestic battery, and interfering with a domestic violence report. He remains in custody pending a court appearance.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
