VOLINIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A sudden encounter with gravel led to a distressing motorcycle mishap in Cass County yesterday morning.

According to Cass County Sheriff’s Department it began around 10:56 a.m. on Thursday when deputies from the office of Sheriff Richard J. Behnke arrived at Lawrence and McKenzie intersection, responding to the crash.

The Decatur man was heading south on Lawrence on his motorcycle when he skidded over a gravel patch, coming to a stop in a grassy sideline. The man, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was whisked away to Bronson Hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

As investigations continue, both Wayne Township and Dowagiac City Fire Departments aided the Sheriff’s Office on-site. Early assessments rule out alcohol and drugs as contributing factors.
