Marion, IN – A Grant County man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a home on Shildmyer Road Saturday night and refusing police commands to surrender, authorities confirmed Monday.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 3000 block of Shildmyer Road on October 25 after a homeowner monitoring live security footage saw someone inside the residence and later observed the camera being covered.
Deputies arrived within minutes and discovered signs of forced entry near the garage. A male suspect—identified as 46-year-old Eric Pohlman—was reportedly seen peering from a window before retreating further into the home. Despite repeated commands to exit, officials said Pohlman refused, prompting deputies to deploy a Taser. He was then taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities recovered items allegedly belonging to the homeowner inside the residence. No other suspects were located. Pohlman was booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of burglary, theft, and resisting law enforcement. He is being held on a $10,000 bond set by Judge Joshua M. Howell of Marion City Court.
Sheriff Del Garcia commended the deputies’ quick response and coordination, noting that no one was injured during the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to routinely test home security systems and report suspicious activity immediately.
Pohlman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
