
Grant County, Indiana – Three people were killed and another injured in a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in rural Grant County, prompting a multi-agency investigation.
According to the Indiana State Police Peru District, the crash occurred shortly after 12:15 p.m. on County Road 600 South near County Road 1150 East. Troopers said a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.
State police identified the driver as Alexander McGuin, 23, of Gas City. Inside the vehicle were three passengers: James M. Clark Jr., 21, of Dunkirk; Gracelyn N. Daniels, 19, of New Castle; and Michael L. Reading, 22, of Hartford City.
According to investigators, Clark and Daniels were pronounced dead at the scene by the Grant County Coroner’s Office. McGuin was also pronounced deceased at the scene. Reading was transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Indiana State Police said the crash remains under investigation. Authorities stated that consumption of alcoholic beverages and/or narcotics is allegedly suspected to have contributed to the crash. Speed is also believed to be a contributing factor, according to investigators.
