Grand Traverse County, MI – A high-speed crash involving a stolen car left three people hospitalized Thursday evening after a Grandville man allegedly carjacked a vehicle in Garfield Township.

According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 5:47 p.m. on September 25 after reports of a stolen 2011 Dodge Challenger. Investigators said the 33-year-old suspect allegedly threatened the victim with a knife before taking off in the vehicle.

Moments later, dispatchers began receiving calls about reckless driving on U.S. 31 near Chums Corners. Witnesses reported the Challenger speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before making a U-turn and crossing the centerline. The suspect’s vehicle then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Avalanche.

The Avalanche was driven by a 68-year-old man from Copemish. His passenger, a 60-year-old woman, was also inside the truck. Both sustained serious injuries and were transported to Munson Healthcare for treatment.

The suspect, also taken to Munson, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Sheriff’s deputies are working alongside Michigan State Police to investigate the crash.

Authorities are asking anyone with video or firsthand knowledge of the incident to contact the Sheriff’s Detective Bureau at 231-995-5012.
