GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Thunderstorms could rumble across western Michigan Tuesday morning before skies clear by afternoon, leaving behind patchy fog in parts of Kent and Ottawa counties. Heavy rain and lightning remain the main hazards during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, storms are expected to shift east of the region by midday, giving way to drier conditions. Rain chances are highest through about 9 a.m., with up to a half-inch possible in some locations. Motorists traveling U.S. 131 and I-96 may encounter brief ponding on roadways and reduced visibility in fog late Tuesday morning.
Once the storms pass, calmer weather sets up for the rest of the week. Highs will reach the upper 70s to mid-80s, with mostly sunny skies through Friday. The stretch of dry weather will help ease travel and outdoor plans across Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland, and Kalamazoo after Tuesday morning’s unsettled start.
Residents are advised to use caution during morning commutes and avoid flooded intersections. No additional hazardous weather is expected through the weekend, though another system could develop next week.
