GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Light rain could move through West Michigan tonight, briefly interrupting an otherwise sunny stretch headed into the new week. The National Weather Service says a 40 percent chance of showers is expected between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., with temperatures dipping to the mid-40s.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, winds will shift west at 5 to 7 mph tonight before calming toward morning. The unsettled pattern clears out quickly, setting up mostly sunny skies Sunday with highs climbing near 86 degrees.

Travelers on U.S. 131 and I-196 may see wet pavement late tonight but road conditions improve rapidly by Sunday morning. Cities across Kent, Ottawa, and Muskegon counties can expect dry conditions through midweek, with highs warming from the low 70s Monday to near 80 by Wednesday.

Residents are advised to keep outdoor plans flexible tonight but expect favorable weather for Labor Day picnics and lakefront trips starting Sunday. Warmer, dry afternoons will dominate through at least Wednesday, with only scattered clouds at night.

More updates will be issued if additional showers redevelop, but for now, West Michigan heads into a stretch of late-summer warmth and sunshine.
