GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Southwest Michigan will see a dramatic weather swing this week, with thunderstorms Monday evening followed by a sharp drop in temperatures and a potential frost by Tuesday night. The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids warns that frost and freezing conditions could harm tender vegetation by early Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered thunderstorms are likely this evening across Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, and Barry counties, bringing brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. Rain chances will linger into early Tuesday before skies clear by midday.

By Tuesday night, temperatures are forecast to dip into the low 30s inland, creating conditions favorable for frost development. Gardeners are urged to cover sensitive plants or bring potted vegetation indoors. Drivers may also face reduced visibility in rural low-lying areas during the early morning hours Wednesday.

The rest of the week looks calm and sunny, though overnight lows will remain cool through Friday morning before a gradual warm-up heading into the weekend.
