Michigan – Tail lights fade into a gray wall this morning as dense fog blankets West Michigan, muting sounds and shrinking visibility across Grand Rapids. Moist air clings to roads and sidewalks, creating a slow and cautious start for commuters.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, widespread fog is expected through mid-morning, with visibility dropping near a quarter mile at times. Some locations may also see slick spots on untreated surfaces. Drivers along US-131, I-196, and M-6 should reduce speed, use low beams, and allow extra stopping distance.
Conditions improve later today as fog lifts and clouds linger. Temperatures climb near 40, keeping surfaces damp but above freezing. To be fair, the calmer stretch is brief.
Attention turns to a wetter Weather pattern by Thursday. Clouds thicken, and showers become likely by afternoon. Rain intensifies Thursday night, with steady rainfall expected. According to the National Weather Service, amounts could reach up to half an inch in spots, enough to slow travel and reduce visibility during evening hours.
Friday remains unsettled with scattered showers and highs near 50. Winds increase at times, pushing moisture across roadways and keeping pavement slick. Plan extra time for commutes, especially during heavier rain.
By Saturday, colder air filters in. Rain transitions to a rain-snow mix during the day, then changes to snow Saturday night as temperatures fall into the 20s. Snow showers linger into Sunday, with light accumulations possible. Slushy roads and reduced visibility could impact weekend travel.
Early next week looks colder but quieter. Sunshine returns, and temperatures slowly recover into the mid-30s. Winter remains firmly in control across West Michigan.
