Grand Rapids, Michigan – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across much of western and central Michigan until 7 p.m. Monday, with light snow and ice expected to create slippery travel conditions during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, mixed precipitation will continue through early evening, producing additional snow accumulations of less than one-half inch and ice accumulations around a light glaze. While amounts are limited, even minor icing can significantly affect road conditions.

The advisory includes Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Clinton, Ionia, Montcalm, Gratiot, Jackson, and surrounding counties. Cities impacted include Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Lansing, Jackson, South Haven, and Greenville.

Forecasters say the primary concern is untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses becoming slick as temperatures hover near freezing. The hazardous conditions could slow traffic and increase the risk of minor crashes, particularly during the Monday evening commute when road use is highest.

Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and use caution while traveling. Drivers can check the latest road conditions through the Michigan Department of Transportation’s MiDrive map at mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/map.

The advisory is expected to expire at 7 p.m. EST as precipitation tapers off and conditions gradually improve. No significant additional accumulations are anticipated beyond early evening.
