Grand Rapids, Mich. – The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Frost Advisory for much of western Michigan from midnight to 9 a.m. EDT Thursday, as temperatures are expected to fall to around 32°F, leading to widespread frost formation by sunrise.

The advisory includes Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, Barry, Van Buren, and Kalamazoo counties, affecting cities such as Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo, South Haven, and Muskegon. Clear skies and light winds will allow heat to escape rapidly overnight, setting the stage for the coldest morning of the fall season so far.

According to the weather service, frost could damage or kill sensitive plants if left uncovered. Residents should protect gardens and outdoor flowers by covering them or bringing them inside tonight. Those with agricultural operations or vineyards should also take precautions to reduce potential crop losses.

Early commuters may encounter frost-covered windshields Thursday morning, particularly along I-96, US-131, and I-196. The Michigan Department of Transportation advises allowing extra time for scraping before travel.

After the chilly start, sunshine will return by midmorning with temperatures climbing into the upper 50s to near 60°F. A gradual warming trend is expected into the weekend, with milder afternoons and crisp, cool nights typical of mid-October.
