GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Southwest Michigan wakes up to areas of patchy fog this morning, but a bright stretch of fall weather is on the way before weekend rain returns. Calm winds and mild sunshine will dominate through Thursday, setting up ideal conditions for outdoor plans before a cold front arrives Saturday with scattered thunderstorms.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, fog may briefly limit visibility early Tuesday along I-96, I-196, and US-131, especially near river valleys and low-lying areas. Drivers should use caution through midmorning, as dense fog could reduce visibility below a quarter mile at times. Once skies clear, highs climb into the low 70s with light northeast winds.
The pattern remains quiet through Thursday, with highs in the mid-60s and cool, clear nights in the low 40s. By Friday, a southerly wind shift brings more clouds and rising humidity ahead of an approaching front. Forecasters expect showers and isolated thunderstorms to develop Saturday afternoon, with a few pockets of brief heavy rain possible across Ottawa, Kent, and Allegan Counties.
Behind the system, temperatures fall back into the 50s by Sunday under partly sunny skies — a crisp, classic mid-October finish for West Michigan.
