Grand Rapids, Mich. – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to sweep across much of Michigan on Tuesday, bringing the potential for damaging winds and heavy rainfall from morning through evening. A few storms could pack wind gusts up to 60 mph, raising concerns over downed trees and localized power outages.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, the entire Lower Peninsula sits under a marginal risk for severe weather, meaning isolated storms could reach severe limits. The highest threats include damaging wind gusts, brief heavy downpours, and, to a lesser extent, small hail or a brief tornado.

Communities from Traverse City to Lansing, and from Grand Rapids to Detroit, could experience reduced visibility on roadways during downpours. Drivers are urged to slow down and watch for water pooling on roads. Outdoor events may face interruptions, and residents are encouraged to secure loose items before storms arrive.

The risk window spans from mid-morning in western counties to late evening in eastern Michigan as storms track east. Weather officials advise staying alert for updated warnings throughout the day.
