Texas starts the day locked in winter’s grip as sharp cold cuts across North Texas. Frost glitters on rooftops, car doors feel stiff to the touch, and exposed skin stings within minutes this morning. Wind slides across open fields, driving chill values down near zero and creating a real risk for anyone outdoors too long.

According to the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth, an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for much of North Texas until 9 a.m. Wind chills as low as one degree below zero have been reported around Grand Prairie, Arlington, and Dallas, increasing the threat of frostbite and hypothermia without proper protection.

Temperatures this morning sit in the mid-20s, with winds adding bite through mid-morning. Travel impacts remain limited, but drivers should watch for slick patches on bridges where moisture refroze before sunrise. Pets, pipes, and people remain vulnerable during the coldest hours. Bundle up, limit time outside, and check on neighbors who may need help.

Relief arrives quickly once the sun climbs. Clouds increase later today, allowing highs to approach the upper 30s. Tonight stays cold again, with lows in the mid-20s and patchy freezing fog possible early Wednesday, briefly reducing visibility during the morning drive.

By midweek, the pattern shifts. Wednesday turns mostly sunny with highs in the low 40s. Thursday warms further under partial sunshine, climbing into the low 50s. Friday brings mostly sunny skies and highs near the low 40s, with breezy north winds returning a winter feel by nightfall.

Looking ahead, longer-range outlooks show colder air retreating north as precipitation chances fade across Texas into early February. Still, flash freezing remains possible each morning this week where daytime melt refreezes after sunset.
