Grand Junction, CO – Thunderstorms are expected to develop over parts of western Colorado and eastern Utah through the weekend, bringing gusty winds and the potential for small hail. The National Weather Service warns of isolated to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon, mainly over the higher terrain.

According to the NWS, the storm system will bring moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty outflow winds, and the possibility of small hail. The greatest risk for severe weather will be in the higher elevations. The threat of thunderstorms will persist through Saturday, with additional storm activity possible into Sunday and early next week.

Fire weather conditions are expected to near critical levels starting Monday, with low humidity and gusty winds likely to elevate the risk of wildfires. The storms combined with the dry conditions could lead to dangerous fire behavior across parts of the region.

The NWS also highlighted that spotter activation is not expected at this time, but residents should remain prepared for rapidly changing weather. Travelers, especially those heading into the higher terrain, should be aware of potential hazards on roads due to rain and hail.

Stay tuned to local weather reports for updated warnings or advisories, particularly as fire conditions intensify early next week.
