Grand Junction, Colorado – Red Flag Warnings remain in effect across western Colorado through midnight Friday as dangerous fire conditions persist, fueled by gusty winds and low humidity.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected today and tomorrow across lower elevation valleys, with relative humidity dropping to just 5–10%. These conditions, combined with above-normal temperatures, have created a widespread risk of wildfires across much of the Western Slope.

Wind Advisories are active in parts of Mesa, Montrose, and Delta counties, where dry fuels and erratic winds could cause small fires to spread rapidly. Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning and secure loose materials. Southwest winds will continue to increase through Saturday evening, adding to the threat.

The extreme dryness follows a heat peak Thursday, with temperatures remaining well above seasonal averages through Sunday. Fire crews are on heightened alert, and local officials warn that any new ignition could quickly escalate.

Red Flag Warnings are expected again Saturday from 9 a.m. to midnight. Authorities urge residents to stay alert and limit outdoor activities that could spark flames.
